As Cady said in Mean Girls: “In girl world, there’s two types of girls on Halloween”. Girls who like to take the opportunity to dress hot, and girls who like to take the opportunity to dress funny. I can’t find that to be more accurate.

Now, me? I’ve always been a fan of dressing hot rather than spooky. Halloween is a holiday like no other, a true cause to get creative and dress outside the realms of your ordinary outfit choices.

The ancient history of Halloween is derived from the celtic belief that on the night of October 31, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. This, overtime, evolved into the time allocated to the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead (including saints and martyrs). In 2023, however, the options of what you can dress up as are truly endless. We often use Halloween as an excuse to dress up and party; it’s a night to bring some of our favourite memes, pop culture moments, movie and video game characters or music videos to life.

With Halloween parties, the opportunities are truly endless. One of my best friends would dress up as Gru from Despicable Me, while I went for the cute minion. Although I’ve been guilty of being a slutty angel in the past, I like to also get fucking creative and kind of niche. One year, I did Kitana from Mortal Kombat (if you know who that is, then props to you girly pop!), and last year I dressed up as Shego from Kim Possible (because she truly is the baddest baddie I’ve seen!).

So while you can dress as something ghoulish and scary, I tend to sway toward the characters and iconic moments. If you’re looking for inspo, look no further chums.
