In the ever-evolving world of fashion, the key to creating something extraordinary lies in a unique blend of experience and insight. Rebe Burgess, drawing from nearly a decade in luxury fashion and her successful six-year leadership of her eponymous footwear and accessories brand, has embarked on a new chapter with the introduction of women's fashion.

With a deep well of expertise in fabric, cut, and styling, Burgess has meticulously curated her inaugural ready-to-wear collection for REBE. Each piece in this collection embodies the very essence that has underpinned her reputation: quality, timelessness, and subtle sophistication. Having ventured from international buying to establishing a globally sought-after brand, Burgess possesses an innate understanding of modern womenswear.

Under Burgess's guidance, REBE isn't just timeless and refined; it's also a tribute to her intrinsic appreciation for balance. It's clever, captivating, and undeniably contemporary. It's a brand designed by a woman who genuinely comprehends the desires of the modern woman's wardrobe.

Born in New Zealand, REBE redefines the boundaries of contemporary womenswear. We had an amazing conversation with the founder and visionary, delving into her personal journey and her limitless aspirations.

Could you share with us the story behind the inception of REBE? What inspired you to start this venture?

Rebe: "For as long as I can remember, I've loved fashion! I was that little girl who was obsessed with changing her outfits five times a day and was always in my mother's wardrobe. As soon as I was able to comprehend it, I wanted to have my own brand. Around the time I finished at university, I saw a fabulous woman wearing a wide-brimmed hat, and that's when I decided to start my brand. I found a local milliner and launched my first hat — a small run of 20 units of a wide-brim Panama straw style that still exists in my collection to this day!"

What were the key challenges you faced when starting REBE, and how did you overcome them?

Rebe: "I think managing my schedule and timing has always been a challenge. Besides working full-time and trying to juggle running a business, learning about production and the fashion calendar (we are designing and producing so far in advance), and working with manufacturers based abroad (e.g., Portugal, Italy), has been quite tricky to navigate. However, it has made me a much more organised person. You just have to get better at it if you want your product to arrive at the right time!"

REBE has gained recognition for its timeless style and quality. Can you elaborate on the design and production process that sets your brand apart in the market?

Rebe: "I’m very passionate about the product I put out. I don’t produce anything I wouldn’t wear myself! Because my ranges are personal to my style and how I like to dress, then I think that sets it apart from what’s out in the market."

REBE has a distinct and innovative contemporary aesthetic. What drives your creative process, and how do you consistently bring fresh ideas to your collections?

Rebe: "I would say my creative process is driven by my everyday life and what I'm feeling and needing. I resonate with products that are not only beautiful but also practical, knowing I'll wear them time and time again. I believe the subtle REBE details, the fabric qualities, and effortless shapes are the ultimate recipe to keep things looking fresh."

Can you share any insights into the ways in which your design philosophy and creative vision have evolved since the inception of REBE?

Rebe: "My design philosophy is refined. I like to focus on pieces that are classic, elevated, and practical. In a way, REBE is an extension of my own wardrobe, which is made up of timeless, quality pieces that I still love after many seasons. I want the REBE woman to be able to build her wardrobe in a similar way so that it is considered but distinctly tailored to her individual taste, featuring pieces that will enhance the wearer's everyday life and are destined to last a long time."

What trends or shifts in consumer behaviour do you foresee shaping the future of the footwear industry?

Rebe: "Once again, sticking to the classics and styles that will work for a multitude of different scenarios is essential. Consumers want to know they are getting the most out of their hard-earned money. I believe that finding the right balance between quality and price point is key."

REBE has achieved considerable success since its founding. What milestones are you particularly proud of?

Rebe: "I am definitely proud of the launch of our first RTW collection. It's something I've been working on for a while, so it's nice to finally have the product out there. It also marks the first collection I've launched since leaving my full-time job to pursue REBE solely — a big and exciting step!"

Looking ahead, what are your aspirations and plans for the future of REBE? Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives you'd like to share?

Rebe: "My aspirations are to continue growing the brand and expand into other categories. Watch this space."
