Steph Claire Smith's Day On A Plate

BY SOPHIE CHUNG

Steph Claire Smith - she's the ultimate Aus(tralasian) girl next door with a casual 1.5 million followers on the ol' Instagram, she's a food, health and fitness fiend.

Seeing as 'healthy' is not the adjective to describe me, influential health nut Steph Smith shares what she eats in a day.

If you know me personally, or have witnessed my whole three runs that I reported completing last year, you will know that I hate running. It's really hard! And it hurts my right hip. Yoga is awesome but I can't justify spending that much money on stretching at this point in my life. So I just listen to Buddhist podcasts and it regulates my blood pressure, stress levels... and it does most of the good things that exercise does for your mind.

But my body is a piece of weak shit with zero stamina and it definitely needs a lot of work. When it comes to food... I eat pork belly way too often (despite the fact that I found out that pigs retain their toxins - thanks for making me feel guilty with your bible reference Izak Flash) and most of my dinners use deep-frying as the main method of cooking. Kimchi cuts through grease and is an amazing palate cleanser, so that's how I can handle the oil. And when you have KBBQ, kimchi that's been cooked in pig fat paired with a slice of juicy juicy pork belly is a match made in heaven - you'll be hooked on it instantly. It's like the heroine of dinner recipes.

Insert Steph Claire Smith - She's the co-founder of KIC Girls with Laura Henshaw - this dynamic duo helps busy women 'Keep it Clean'. Providing recipes and shopping lists to take the monotonous and highly irritating guessing game out of 'What am I going to eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner today?' as well as workout plans to integrate into your more often than not, stagnant hunch-backed state, their online program pretty much susses out the 'healthy' aspect that we're all striving to squeeze in our lives. And now that their business pitch is done and dusted in one clean sentence, we can now move onto Steph's day on a plate.

Health is Wealth

"My meals vary depending on what I’m doing for the day. If I’m shooting all day, then I’ll keep it fairly light but full of good fats and protein for energy." Since we're not (all) models, I guess this isn't applicable to (all) of us. But translated into the regular plebeians lifestyle, I guess it could be compared to... needing to look extra hot for A) a first date B) your wedding day C) being a bridesmaid at your friend's wedding and maybe your ex is there OR D) an exclusive party where you need to suck in for the first half hour until the booze kicks in and you're allllll gooooodddd.

Steph continues, "If I know I’m going out one night, I’ll eat very clean and healthy throughout the day so I can treat myself a little that night!" I am unclear as to what "a little" means but you can all take from it what you will. Two glasses or ten, everyone is a different sized fish.

"Below is a typical day and what I’ll generally try to stick to most of the time:

6.30AM One glass of water pre workout, with fresh lemon. My morning caffeine is an English brekkie tea with a dash of full cream milk.

8AM Breakfast: After a KIC workout, I love my favourite breakfast on the KIC planner: Buckwheat Porridge with Berries & Peanut Butter as it keeps me full and it’s delicious!

11AM Snack: Either a green smoothie or our Keep it Cleaner Kombucha.

12.30PM Lunch: Usually avo, poached eggs, spinach and haloumi on gf toast or a chicken salad of some sort.

3PM Snack: I always have a sweet tooth craving in the afternoon so I’ll have a Keep it Cleaner bliss ball to satisfy my tastebuds and fill me back up with energy.

7PM Dinner: My favourite thing to cook would be a spicy roast chicken with sweet potato and peas! But if I ever want some new ideas I head to our KIC GIRLS planner.

8PM Snack: Some Keep it Cleaner Radical Rocky Road or dark chocolate and a peppermint tea."

And that, my friends, is an example of living with your shit together. How does your daily regime compare to Steph's? It's starkly different from mine - I wake up at 7 or 8am depending on how difficult it is to get up and then I walk to work, sometimes buying a pie at the cafe by the office. I usually opt for steak & cheese or butter chicken - not that that really counts for much but it's a big decision I have to make for myself. And then I have a coffee at work and am pretty stationary all the way through until I walk back home and eat whatever Sam has cooked for us. Oh gawd, I love steak with mushroom sauce and peas with potato mash and salad.

Here's to health ladies! *as I drink a beer at 6.23pm in the office*
