Podcasts: What the Chums Are Currently Listening To
BY GEORGIA ROSE
Podcasting has become a bit of a trend.

It feels like there’s a new one launching every other day. Looking for true crime?
Maybe someone to tell you how to invest? Well, you’ve got options.
The issue is actually narrowing down what to listen to. With countless voices and opinions, what is actually worth your valued attention? Honest answer? We’ve got no clue. But in search of something new to tune into on your commute, we’ve gathered the podcasts that stand to attention, and keep us coming back each episode.
Every Outfit, The Podcast
What started as an Instagram dedicated to every outfit on Sex and the City, has turned into an on the pulse, pop-culture podcast. Chelsea Fairless and Lauren Garroni share their heavily specific opinions on life, celebrities and most importantly, fashion. It’s what I imagine a podcast with my best friend would sound like.
Second Life
Hosted by the co-founder of digital fashion platform Who What Wear, Hillary Kerr, Second Life chronicles the ebbs and flows in a women’s career. She chats with her guests about making pivots and what it’s like to leave your comfy career and follow a passion project. I’ve discovered so many amazing women through this podcast - don’t judge an episode just because you don’t recognise the name, those are often the best!
Pink Diamond Heist
I originally discovered this story on Mama Mia’s ‘True Crime Conversations’ podcast, and had to dig a little deeper! Journalist Sinead Mangan documents the outback heist of millions of dollars worth of diamonds from one of Australia’s largest mines. Of all the true crimes, this one just amazed me - worth a listen!

Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain
Emma might have celebrity status, and a cool 16 million followers, her podcast is completely authentic and easy to relate to. Roxy, CC’s resident digi gal loves her quick takes on a range of great topics: think failure, relationships, and criticism, balanced with parties, things she’s loving and what she's been wearing!
Mama Mia’s True Crime Conversations
She’s on the Money
SOTM is more than just a podcast, it’s a whole damn community of women helping women get financially secure & set up for the future! Hosted by financial advisor Victoria Devine, the podcast holds space for real money stories (my favourite) and dissects often confusing financial questions. Once you’re hooked, join the Facebook group!
Fashion in Focus
Now, this podcast isn’t actually in action anymore, but I do love going back and re-listening to my favourite episodes. Kiwi’s Murray Bevan, founder of pr agency Showroom22 and journalist India Leishman chat to leaders on the New Zealand fashion circuit. A few of of favourites pop up on the podcast - Wynn Hamlyn, Georgia Currie, & Maggie Marilyn!
Freakonomics
If you want to know about a variety of interesting and thought-provoking things that successful people from all corners of the world are doing, this is a great go-to. The guests are all heavy-weight players and span from scientists to philosophers and CEOs in the tech world. It’s a great motivator for hustlers who love the fast paced life and also a one stop shop for social ammunition at your next intellectual dinner party.
Eckhart Tolle: Essential Teachings
Spiritual teacher, Eckhart Tolle, has teamed up with Oprah Winfrey to provide a series that takes you through his best-selling book ‘The Power of Now,’ chapter by chapter. Providing solutions and answers to everyday peoples’ struggles and woes of life, it’s an incredibly relatable and enlightening podcast that will do wonders to your perspective of life. Every time you’re stressed with work and relationships, battling with ego issues or undergoing a sense of overwhelming anxiety, give this one a go!
The Always Sunny Podcast
Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton make for a delightful troika of unabashed, ruthless comedy. Going through each episode of their 15 season saga of the highly famed FX show, ‘Always Sunny in Philadelphia,’ it’s a hoot and a half. They express rage and insecurities around can’t-make-this-shit-up real-life situations and as the podcast develops, the content becomes more and more unhinged. Not for the fainthearted - must have a good sense of humour to appreciate the unrelenting savagery of these three artists.
Your Mom’s House
Hosted by husband and wife duo, Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky, YMH studios hosts all the greats in comedy. This podcast is most definitely not for the Karens who will get offended at the whiff of a fart. It’s for those who appreciate old school comedy in which everyone understands that when you’re at a comedy show, it’s a controlled environment where the comedic performance is literally just that, a comedic performance. If you love crazy, out the gate stories, you’ll love this one. As a solid introduction to this podcast, which can be hit or miss depending on the energy of the guests and hosts, I recommend you start with the episodes that hosts Joey Coco, Bill Burr and Bobby Lee. Best for those who have dark humour and have enough open mindedness to appreciate the callousness and crassness of it all.
