If you have some empty walls or you're about to start redesigning your place, this read is for you. It's time to personalise that boring blank wall to reflect the interesting parts of you. . How, you ask? By creating a gallery wall, of course!
A gallery wall is a perfect way to add some personality and style to your home. Plus, it's super easy to create and can be done on a budget. We’ve got the how-to on how to make the perfect gallery wall for your space.
First things first, choose a spot for your gallery wall. It could be above your sofa, in your bedroom, or even in your home office. Any blank wall in your home is a blank canvas just waiting to be filled with posters, prints, and other cool sh*t.
Next, start searching for posters and prints that speak to you. The best spots to find posters are online shops like Society6, Etsy, and Redbubble. They have tons of affordable prints, ranging from corny quotes to trending art prints. But don't just stop at posters and prints; mix it up with some DIY pieces you've created yourself. Not all DIYs have to look cheap! We’ve noted some really effective and beautiful ideas to get you started.
My friends who moved from their crusty and mouldy uni flat have just evolved and aged 10 years by moving into a far nicer and chic rental. For their housewarming potluck that we all attended, we were asked to each bring a plate and something for their gallery wall. This was SUCH a cool idea as we all brought in pieces with different textures and aesthetics which looked awesome when all packed in together. Maybe this could be a fab idea for your next host?
Here are some cool DIY ideas that will add some texture and depth to your gallery wall:
Macrame Wall Hangings: Macrame is making a comeback, and it's a great way to add some boho vibes to your gallery wall. You can create your own macrame wall hangings with rope and basic knots.
Textured Canvas: This is a great way to add some depth to your gallery wall. You can buy some blank canvases and plaster from your local DIY store, and all you need to do is plonk some plaster down and start carving it up over the canvas. You could also use stencils to create patterns or shapes.
Framed Fabric: This is a unique way to add some texture to your gallery wall. Find some pretty second-hand fabric from your local and frame it in a simple frame. You could even mix and match different fabrics for a fun and eclectic look.
Once you've gathered all your prints and DIY pieces, it's time to start arranging them. Start by laying out all your pieces on the floor and experimenting with different arrangements. You want to create a cohesive look, so try to balance out the different sizes and colours of your pieces. Start with the biggest piece first. This will act as the focal point of your gallery wall, so you want to make sure it's centred and eye-catching. From there, work your way out, filling in the gaps with smaller pieces. And don't be afraid to mix up the orientation! Hang some pieces vertically, some horizontally, and some at a diagonal angle to keep things interesting.
