We Tried the New Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Skincaring Foundation
BY GEORGIA ROSE
I love to purchase new beauty products. I have a whole beauty wardrobe, but it’s a rare sight to catch me in makeup - I’m a big contradiction, I know.

Foundation has always been my friend. Suffering from redness, it’s handy to pop on to even out my complexion.
To quote many beauty gurus: Foundation is arguably the most important component of a makeup routine. Although this may be true, it can be hard to find ‘the one’. I’ve more or less resigned to my favourite few.
This led me to try the latest product to do the rounds of influencer marketing: the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Skincaring Foundation, NZD$69. And boy, did it appear everywhere. Gaining hype for including ingredients we usually look for in skincare. As mentioned earlier, you’re unlikely to catch me wearing makeup on the daily, so i tend to reach for a foundation with ‘no-makeup’ vibes.
What Elizabeth Arden promises: A light but buildable foundation with the perfect natural-glow texture claimed to last up to 24 hours. Available in 40 diverse shades, the largest draw card is the skincare benefits, with the inclusion of vitamin E, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. So with that being said, did it really stand up to the test?
The Application
The Flawless Finish foundation is meant to be paired with the new Flawless Start Hydrating Serum Primer, NZD$65, but I forgot that - classic. However, I do love to use the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair with all my other foundations - so that’s what I did.
Using the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (an oldy, but a goody) to buff the foundation, the Flawless Foundation gave me a natural yet even coverage. I started in the center of my face to concentrate my coverage and blend it out for a natural result. As the formula is buildable, I was able to go back in and apply more foundation for better coverage without it feeling remotely caked or heavy.
Wearability
I gave the foundation a few different tests.
General wear for day to day - wearing the foundation to breakfast and exploring Wellington, I have to give credit where credit is due - the foundation didn’t move. Even towards the end of the day where I would expect a light weight foundation to look a little worse for wear in my oily areas, I didn’t feel the need to reapply.
Night-time shenanigans while in town for the Six60 concert, a hot dance-induced sweaty experience sounded like the perfect test. By the end of the evening, I definitely didn’t have the coverage I walked out the door with. Although it wasn’t terrible - I probably would have wanted to build the coverage back up if I was heading out.
Final Verdict
Why fix what ain’t broke? It is super hard to beat my all time favourite Estée Lauder Double Wear, which should be a staple in everyone’s skindrobe.
In saying that, it is good to have a range of foundations for different occasions, because not all foundations are made equal - so if you’re looking for a daily, easy application formula, this one gets the tick from me. But if you’re looking to invest in the ‘one and only’ workhorse type, I would look a little further.
