The Idol Makeup Break Down: Lily Rose Depp

All the makeup products used on Lily-Rose Depp on the set of “The Idol' and the indistinguishable dupes!
10 JUL - 2023
It’s not a great show but at least they got the hair, makeup and outfits right.
Last year we wrote about Lily-Rose Depp's model-off-duty look, and now she is swept up in the controversy surrounding the show "The Idol."
As you may or may not know, "The Idol" is a show created by The Weeknd and Sam Levinson. I don't want to spoil anything, but it's basically about the toxicity of pop stardom. Specifically about Lily's character, a pop sensation who falls in love with a cult leader who tries to exploit her? I don't know.
"The Idol" has fans perplexed on whether it’s a good or bad show. Judging by its abrupt ending with episode 6 and its cringe-worthy acting from Abel Tesfaye, we’re leaning heavily towards the fact that it’s horrid.
Whatever your opinion is on the matter, there is one undeniable factor, the looks - well, except for Tedros’ rat tail. That, my friends, is a whole other spectacle in itself. It's giving… wig from Look Sharp.
You know what's funny? Word on the street is that the show went and did a whole 180 on us. They flipped the script from telling the story through the female gaze to catering to the male gaze. Talk about BIG MISTAKE! Now the show is about Lily-Rose Depp’s nipples more than anything else. Rumour has it that “The Idol” was a knock at the backlash Sam Levinson received in regards to Sydney Sweeney on the set of “Euphoria”. Yikes.
Another fun fact (because I have so many), the makeup artist behind "The Idol", Kirsten Coleman, was also on the set of "Euphoria"! With that said, let's dive into the juicy deets about what Lily-Rose Depp had on her face! We’re talking about the makeup, not the other stuff. IFYKY.

ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint $87
For this lookbook, the true focus is on the eyes and the lips, while the skin remains natural and radiant. Quick heads up, just about everything used on the set is Coco Chanel. But wouldn't it be boring if I only talked about products from one brand? I mean, we already know about the Soleil Tan De Chanel and the Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint. So, let me introduce you to something even better: the ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint.
Packed with niacinamide, This skin tint is like a juicy elixir that not only hydrates but gives you that seriously dewy, lit-from-within look. It's truly the ultimate second-skin foundation. Trust me, it's a total game-changer.
Expert tip: keep in mind that this product is on the tacky side due to niacinamide. As such, your best friend will be a little dusting of powder. That way, you can maintain the glow but not have your hair sticking to your cheeks.
Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour
Back in 2009, Chanel released Tan De Soleil, and it quickly became a favourite within the beauty world for its versatile formula that blended like a dream. But things took a turn when they reformulated the product in 2020. With the emergence of better cream bronzers on the market, Tan De Soleil lost its allure, and we're here to share a far superior option that will give you the same sunkissed chiselled look as Jocelyn.
Not only does the Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour stick come in various shades, this product is skin-like, easy to blend and perfectly pigmented. The Chubby Sticks use special binding ingredients for a long-lasting effect. As a result, you can easily blend this product in before it softly sets to fight against humidity and sweat - perfect for a busy popstar! Not to mention the sleek packaging that makes it easy to carry around your makeup bag for easy touch-ups!
Chanel Stylo Ombre Et Contour 3-in-1 Eyeshadow-Eyeliner-Kohl Pen in Electric Brown
One product we could not dupe was the Chanel Stylo Ombre Et Contour 3-in-1 Eyeshadow-Eyeliner-Kohl Pen in Electric Brown. This unique formula can be used in three ways, as the product name suggests, and it is perfect for anybody looking for a smudge-proof eyeliner that you blend before it sets.
Unlike other eyeliners, this formula has a unique powdery feel that blends evenly and smoothly without tugging on the eye. Once you're happy with how it looks, the Stylo Ombre Et Contour will set into place and will not budge until you need to take it off at the end of the day.
The shade Electric Brown is also the perfect dark brown that doesn't look black or too chocolatey. It is the ideal day-night eyeliner to keep in your makeup bag for a pop-star-worthy transformation that will take you from work to the bars.

MAC Lip Pencil in Subculture
Boy, do we have a dupe for you. You can achieve the same stunning look as Lily-Rose Depp without breaking the bank! Say hello to a budget-friendly beauty find.
While Depp used the Coco Chanel Le Crayon Levres in the shade Beige Naturel, the MAC Lip Pencil in the shade Subculture is a virtually indistinguishable dupe. Not only do you get more product with MAC, Subculture is the perfect peachy nude shade that is extremely long lasting due to its classic wood-pencil formula.
If you have a deeper skin tone, check out Oak or Cork for a similar nude pencil effect that will give you that same popstar pout.
Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Adrienne
According to the makeup artist on set, the exact lipstick used on Lily-Rose Depp was the Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in the shade Adrienne.
Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour provides hydration and vibrancy in one swipe. Using nourishing ingredients like jojoba oil and mimosa, this lipstick keeps the lips moisturised and comfortable. Adrienne is a soft, neutral pinky-brown with a shiny finish. It is the perfect everyday shade that will suit any occasion.
We hope you enjoy experimenting with these products and emulating your inner Jocelyn!
