St Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Mousse Review - IT'S A WINNER
BY REBECCA DIEUDONNE
'Blessed’ with fair skin, I prefer to slather myself in SPF50+ and fake it with a bottle than risk the imminent sun damage trying to chase the tanned dream.
3 OCT - 2018
If you've read my review of the Little Honey Bronzing Kit, you'll know that I'm a fake tan addict.
I guess I could embrace my natural hue, but I feel healthier (and not to mention 3kgs lighter) with a light coat of the golden juice. This has resulted in a weekly ritual (Thursdays), where I apply my self-tanner and destroy my partner’s high thread count sheets (he loves me, really).
I’ve tried just about every self-tanner on the market, and choose to use Bondi Sands Dark Tanning Lotion. It’s affordable for my high-frequency use and the quality and colour is spot-on for my ivory complexion. One application is enough to last seven days without dehydrating my skin, while providing a lovely olive colour that doesn’t grab around my ankles (#riskybusiness). With that being said, I am concerned about the long-term health effects of absorbing these chemicals, but I have found more natural formulas to be inferior in terms of performance (they tend to go patchy, or dry my skin out).
Cue my interest when I hear about the latest innovation from tanning gurus, St Tropez. ‘Purity’ is a water bronzing mousse which is vegan-friendly and contains 100% natural tanning actives (you have my attention!). Adding to the list of positives, it has a pleasant tropical scent and promises NO transfer!
Putting It to the Test
I apply a few pumps of the white mousse to my tanning mitt, and the formula turns clear as I rub it into my skin. This is a plus and a negative. You need to be diligent in your application as you won’t know where you have been, so rub in thoroughly so you don’t miss spots or over-apply. It’s water-light and spreads easily so it’s a dream to apply. It dries quickly too, and I don’t feel sticky while getting dressed a few minutes later.
I sleep in my tan (hence the sheets...) - you will need to wait 4-8 hours for this to develop. When I wake up in the morningI am VERY IMPRESSED.
As promised, there is no transfer. NONE. The clear formula has developed into a very natural olive colour that blends beautifully on my hands and feet (I’d say it’s a true ‘medium’ in terms of depth). I do notice I missed rubbing in a splotch on my hand but this is no biggie and a good reminder to do a final round once more before finishing my application. I don’t even need to rinse before getting dressed as there’s no smell or tint that will transfer onto my clothes during the day.

Final Verdict
Fast-forward four days and my tan is still perfect - it hasn’t faded or gone patchy anywhere! My skin feels comfortable and hydrated too – despite not applying any moisturiser.
This product gets a straight 10/10 from me. The only thing that might prevent me from using this weekly is the price, so I’ll see how long a bottle lasts before I make the transition from Bondi Sands. It is a mousse, so a little should go a long way - stay tuned!
St Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Mousse is available from Farmers for $59.95.
