Entering the mind of perfumer, ‘Barnabé Fillion’, through Aesop’s latest fragrance release.
Introducing ‘Othertopias’. Three fragrances from elsewhere. Developed in collaboration with long-term fragrance partner Barnabé Fillion, Aesop has announced the launch of Othertopias. It features three new fragrances titled Miraceti, Karst, and Erémia.
This olfactory troika flirts with the senses by embarking on a journey through the imaginations of Othertopia. Unorthodox in nature, the collection is inspired by juxtapositions found in specific spaces - environments that blur the boundaries of past and present, real and unreal, here and there.

The Itinerary
Your nose is an internal time machine of memories as scent evokes emotions that are often deep within the subconscious. Through the power of fragrance, Fillion expresses the transformative abilities of aroma by embodying this idea into his creation.
Miraceti, Karst, and Erémia distill the worlds of the boat, the shore, and the wasteland. The three liminal spaces challenge perception, invite conversations and unlock reveries.
Miraceti
Miraceti or 'The Boat' pays homage to the serenity and savagery of the sea, a warm and resinous ode to seafarers.
Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Miraceti is woody and peppery, featuring labdanum, ambrette, and styrax.
Inspired by the swirling seas and oscillating horizons of an unpredictable voyage across the ocean, the experience of Miraceti is celestial. It will transport your senses as ambrette replicates the salty breeze. At the same time, labdanum grounds you to the ocean-worn wooden deck while styrax provides the warmth on this lonely journey.
Karst
Trapped in the grip of the ocean is Miraceti; optimism ensues at the sight of land with Karst.
Karst is redolent of the seashore and Mediterranean flora, grounded in warm spice, dry woody notes and subtle smokiness. 'The Shore' signals a landscape as you breathe in fresh and herbaceous marine notes.
Top notes of juniper hits with the metallic reality that you may never escape the constant loop of the tide. The warm spice of cumin and sandalwood will motivate your desire to one day lie in the luscious green grass of the Mediterranean.
Erémia
'The Wasteland,' Erémia represents urbanity overtaken by the force of nature. Hazy yet vibrant, Erémia illustrates the tenacity of nature. Perfectly captured with notes of green tea, lusciously green without the fierce pepperiness that can be found in Miraceti.
This fragrance is floral, green, and citrus with a hint of powdery musk. The bright citrus notes of yuzu preludes the waxy, floral notes of iris.
Nature and humanity fight the battle of coexistence, and the skies weep. What's left is the resinous, earthy notes of galbanum, representing a state of petrichor.
The next time you are caught in a storm, find comfort in the aroma left behind by the downpour. If you find solace in the rain, a bottle of Erémia will satisfy your longing with a touch of light and hope for an otherwise dreary winter afternoon.

The Verdict
If you are familiar with Aesop's resident fragrances, you will most likely resonate with this collection. The fragrances are herbaceous, woody, earthy and unique. Perfect for the current season, immerse yourself in a world reimagined.
If you love rich and woody scents without the sweetness, Miraceti is perfectly spiced to keep up the excitement. Ambrette keeps this fragrance skin-like while labdanum provides a dynamic woody aroma.
Karst and Erémia on the other hand, are lighter on the wood notes, focusing on the herbaceous quality of mineral notes. Erémia is my personal favourite due to the ‘concrete after rain’ notes of galbanum. Truly a breathtaking fragrance that evolves throughout the day. From floral to earthy tones, Erémia is like a sunset in a bottle.
Karst, I recommend for those who love spices in their fragrances. The sweetness that follows spicy notes, such as cumin, is perfectly balanced with the balsamic quality of juniper.
Don't forget all Aesop products are vegan and cruelty-free, a guilt-free indulgence in the remarkable aromatic journeys made possible only by nature.
