Give up on the house you won’t be able to afford anyway and go get some Rare Beauty.

In the ever-evolving world of beauty, the influence of celebrities is undeniable. Over the years, several famous faces have ventured into the world of makeup and skincare with their own brands. However, amidst the sea of celebrity-led brands, one question remains: are these products actually any good?

One brand that captured the world's attention and gained global traction is Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez. Launched in 2020, Rare Beauty has consistently stayed at the top and continues to excite people during every launch. It seems as though Rare Beauty has managed to transcend the scepticism that is often associated with celebrity-driven brands, and we can totally see why!

With that being said, let’s go through our top six products that are absolutely non-negotiables if you’re looking to explore the brand.

Always an Optimist 4-in-1 Mist

First and foremost, Always an Optimist Mist is an alcohol-free formula. As a newer brand to the market, Rare Beauty can release products with updated ingredient indexes that speak to the modern customer. As we all know by now, traditional setting sprays rely on alcohol to help makeup last longer by tactfully drying out the skin. Nowadays, an elevated understanding of makeup chemistry has allowed for skin-caring ingredients to do the same job without harm. You can use this spray even if you have particularly sensitive skin too!

Other really cool ingredients include botanical extracts like lotus, gardenia and white water lily, which are all soothing and antioxidant-rich. We recommend using this spray before and after foundation or powder application to layer hydration throughout your routine.

However, don't assume that the Always An Optimist won't be able to set your makeup just because it's full of skincare ingredients. You'd be surprised how well this mist locks in your base, so you don't have to worry about smudging or fading.

Positive Light Under Eye Brightener

Rare Beauty's Positive Light Under Eye Brightener is a revolutionary product that should not be underestimated. Initially, I didn't expect anything special to come out of trying this concealer. However, upon first use, I was converted.

One of the most notable features of the Positive Light Under Eye Brightener is its brilliant shade range that doesn't lean too peachy or orange. As such, you won't need an additional concealer as it blends seamlessly to create a second-skin effect.

Let's talk about the controversy of the metal applicator. As many have reported, I can confirm that it doesn't pick up nearly as much product as your traditional applicator. However, I quickly grew to appreciate its advantages. For example, it provides excellent control over the amount of product that ends up on the skin. More often than not, I get the perfect amount, which means I am preventing waste and not overloading the delicate under eye area! Sometimes, less really is more.

It has a blurring effect that smooths over pores and fine lines that look perfect yet natural? You have to try it yourself to really understand! I also recommend using this product with your fingers or a cushion puff for the best results. For some reason, even my favourite concealer brush or sponge can't seem to reveal the same results as when I use my finger!

Soft Pinch Liquid Blush

While dog-sitting for Sophie, the chief beauty editor of Chatty Chums, I had the pleasure of getting my hands into her impressive makeup stash *evil laugh*. While appreciating her collection, one gem that caught my eye was the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. Eager to put it on my face, I quickly discovered that this blush truly lives up to the hype. Seriously.

It was love at first sight. Even when applied directly onto bare skin, the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush blends seamlessly into the complexion to create a healthy flush. It strikes the perfect balance between dewy and natural, so even if you usually prefer a matte finish, I bet good money that you'd love it as much as I do.

Fun fact: the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush uses a very special ingredient that is near and dear to my heart: Trimethylsiloxysilicate. This powerhouse ingredient is responsible for longevity as it helps the formula adhere to the skin without compromising its blendability. As such, this blush will stay vibrant and fresh till the moment you go to take it off!

Stay Vulnerable Glossy Balm

Rare Beauty's Stay Vulnerable Glossy Balm in the shade Nearly Neutral is a personal favourite. My best friend introduced it to me, and now we're probably responsible for at least 50% of its sales. I'm not even joking.

The secret is in the silky, non-sticky formula that feels like a hug on the lips. This glossy balm is incredibly comfortable and plumps the lips as it fills in the little lines. It is such an effortless product that you can whip out for any occasion.

Why Nearly Neutral? This shade is the epitome of the perfect pink-brown that doesn't cross the line into mauve territory. I can't tell you the number of times I was enticed into purchasing a pinky brown lip product that ended up looking purple on the lips. With Nearly Neutral, I never have that issue. Instead, it enhances the lips with subtle warmth, providing a flattering and effortless MLBB option.

Liquid Touch Foundation Brush

As a self-proclaimed sucker for all things pink, I find myself drawn to the brush range from Rare Beauty. This adorable shade of pink adds a touch of playfulness to my makeup routine, making it an absolute joy to use. I am finding it difficult to choose one brush to recommend, but if I had to choose one, it would be the Liquid Touch Foundation Brush.

The Liquid Touch Foundation Brush features densely packed, cruelty-free bristles that are incredibly soft to the touch. The unique design allows for an even distribution of liquid makeup, effortlessly blending it into the skin for a seamless finish. The bristles are expertly shaped to hug the curves of the face, ensuring precise application in hard-to-reach areas like the sides of the nose and around the eyes.

Overall, the Liquid Touch Foundation Brush is a great tool that elevates the application of any liquid formula. Its soft and durable bristles, deliberate design, and ability to create a flawless finish make it an incredible brush option.

Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter

No longer do we find ourselves reaching for glittery highlighters that transform our skin into a disco ball. Luckily, Rare Beauty has graced us with a beautiful, weightless, radiant highlighter we can all approve of.

When it comes to formulation, there is truly nothing like it. It has a weightless and silky texture that melts into the complexion, creating a second-skin effect with an impossible glow. As the name suggests, the baked powder formula is positively silky. Full of micro-sparkles, this highlighter effortlessly melts into the complexion, creating a second-skin effect with an impossible glow.

If you are looking for a genuinely luminous highlighter, go to your nearest Sephora to give the Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter a swatch. It won't take long before you find yourself lining up in the queue!

The world might be in shambles, but that doesn't mean our makeup game has to suffer with it. In the grand scheme of things, lipstick won't break the bank, but it might just mend our spirits so we can keep pretending the economy isn't in ruins!

All jokes aside, remember to treat yourself every once in a while and keep working hard because this won't be the first Rare Beauty favourites editorial.

Love from your favourite beauty-obsessed girl with the worst spending habits in the world, Jenny.

Ciao!
