You may have noticed that a glowy complexion is never long-lasting. Here’s how to make the impossible possible.

Don’t ditch your love affair with the glow quite yet. Every relationship needs a little bit of work and a little bit of love.
The glowy complexion sits proudly in the beauty hall of fame next to the black wing liner and the red lip. And yes, I know that we all couldn't get enough of the full coverage plus bake combination once upon a time. Nowadays, you’re guaranteed to spot a glowy complexion on the everyday streets of the city to the catwalks of glamorous high fashion shows.
However, you may have heard that the glow has gained a rather nasty reputation for not being able to last - kind of like that ex who just never really got it. Even still, there is just something so irresistible about that luminous glow that keeps us coming back. So, I'm here to tell you that the dewy finish is more than capable of surviving throughout the night if we just pay a little more attention - unlike that ex.
Prep & Prime
Start your makeup application 15 to 20 minutes after your skincare routine. It's going to ensure that your skin absorbs the moisture from your skincare and helps slow down the process of your complexion products breaking down throughout the day.
Makeup is basically mathematics. Using a dewy primer plus a dewy foundation is an equation for a slippery disaster. If you use a dewy primer, use a more matte foundation. Otherwise, you can use a matte primer with a glowier foundation. You have to balance matte and glow to maximise longevity.
Top Secret Tip
I'm a massive believer in bending the rules of makeup, so here comes the beauty secret: use a thin layer of eyeshadow primer in your oily hot spots. Seriously, it works. I'm not talking about eyeshadow primers like the Mac Painterly Paint Pot or any thick, creamy formulas that are fabulous for eyeshadow. I'm talking about eyeshadow primers like the Urban Decay Primer Potion or the Smashbox 24hr that are thin in texture and colourless. I came across this trick one day when I realised that eyeshadow primers are great at helping with oil production and creasing on the eyes. So what's stopping me from using it anywhere else I need it? You can even use this trick on a stubborn breakout, and it will ensure that your concealer will stay on all day.
Impart the Dew
Where there are thousands of highlighters on the market, it's difficult to know exactly which one to get. Suppose you have a face gloss in your collection. In that case, you already know it isn't the most practical option- although it does deliver the ultimate glow. If you're craving that glossy dew but you're not about the fuss, I hear you. Try the Westman Atelier Lit Up Highlight Stick. It’s a revolutionary stick formulation with an iridescent glow that guarantees glossy shine without the slime.
Set & Go
Once you’ve laid down your liquids and your creams, setting the face is just a matter of strategy.
Using a pearly powder liberally instead of a shimmery highlighter in a smaller zone will trick the eye into seeing a dewy finish. If you have particularly oily skin, opt for a product like the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. They create the most ethereal and soft glow as opposed to a shimmery highlighted look. The best part about this product is the range. If you're an oily girl, the ambient lighting powders come in bronzers and blushes so there's nothing to worry about.
Lastly, keep in mind that you will always look shinier in a few hours. Prepare for this by either powdering a little more than you think you need or using less of that luxurious beauty oil in your skincare routine. This will ensure that you're not overdoing the dew and result in an effortless unveiling of glowy goodness.

We often think that the ‘natural finish’ or the ‘no-makeup makeup’ look would be the easiest to achieve when it actually requires the most finesse. However, once you get there and find the perfect routine that is luminous, long-lasting, and impactful, there is no looking back. The beauty industry may be fickle and ever-changing but the classic glowy complexion is here to stay - so you might as well give it a go!
