The original L'interdit has withstood the test of time.

As an Audrey Hepburn fan, I had to get L'interdit for my perfume collection.
One of the first perfume creations from the house of Givenchy and still standing today is Givenchy L’Interdit for Women. This cult classic from 1957 was dedicated to actress Audrey Hepburn as the most significant muse of this fashion designer. Givenchy have created a number of variations that you may recognise on store shelves, but today we are talking about the classic L’Interdit.
Top Notes: Pear, bergamot
Middle Notes: Tuberose, orange blossom, jasmine sambac
Base Notes: Patchouli, vanilla, ambroxan, vetiver
If you want a classy, mature feminine scent for autumn or winter, this is it - it's so delicious and sweet, with pear and bergamot in the opening. Sparkling with orange blossom, jasmine sambac, and tuberose in it. I work as a florist when I’m not writing for CC, and it’s finally tuberose season, so this perfume review came at the perfect time. The aroma of this fragrance is undoubtedly tuberose-heavy (I clearly love perfumes that contain an overdose of tuberose). The base features patchouli, vetiver, and vanilla, which I definitely notice and appreciate. I’d describe it as a creamy floral... but spiked with fresh pear. It's pretty on the skin, and as it's a big projector, she lasts a long time. I spray once near my wrist and can smell it from arm's length away. L'interdit is the kind of perfume you want to keep smelling over the day or night.
When I think of L'interdit, I think of a woman who frequently travels to London for business — she stays in the nicest hotels and always carries a Hermes Birkin bag.
Spritzing this on the mornings at the florist, I am settling into my classy chic life, where I get to make stunning things. For evenings this scent is obviously made for my little black dress moment as my partner and I head for dinner. But it has quickly become my go-to for any occasion where I want to add a touch of elegance to my outfit.
I was so excited to share this one with mum, knowing she loves vetiver-based scents. While vetiver is often slightly overdone, the L'Interdit pairs the note back with the jasmine to dial it back but still lingers for a long time. So gorgeous.
If you’re into feminine and subtle scents and need a new muse, definitely give this one a squeeze.
L’Interdit is my new 2023 signature, that is all.
