Choosing the right foundation for your skin tone can be an uphill battle. What kind of coverage do you prefer? What type of finish do you like? Is the undertone cool or warm?

Beloved by editors and celebrities alike, Sisley Paris is a purveyor of plump, smooth, healthy skin. The new-generation Phyto-Blanc Compact is a portable and refillable foundation. The packaging is gorgeous, sleek, and light for your makeup bag and handbag (not that you’ll ever need to touch up). Yes, it’s expenny, but worth every penny. The finish is beautifully luminous without looking greasy and feels beautiful on the skin.

Wearability

Roxy:

This new cushion formula from Sisley provides the complexion I've always dreamed of. As a 22-year-old with dry skin, I struggle with finding foundations that can simultaneously give a dewy finish while being lightweight with decent coverage and staying power. My usual go-to is the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation because it's lightweight and has a natural-looking finish, but this Sisley cushion is next level. The first time I tried it, I was going on a date that would lead to a few more drinks, and with the nature of bar-hopping, I often neglect the check-up and touch-up routine. Seeing as this is a formula that promises an ultra dewy finish, I was hesitant to use it for a purpose that required longevity, but through the CC crew, I've heard that Sisley is top of the charts when it comes to foundations - and it did not disappoint.

After application and settling, the skin has a pretty luminosity, slightly more glowy than a satin finish. A complimenting cream blush, cream contour, and a light dusting of finishing powder suit perfectly with the foundation. I was pleased that the product covered my matte finish sunscreen beautifully. I have no idea how it will behave with a shiny sunscreen, but I suspect you will at the very least need a matte primer to control the shine. I worry a lot about my foundations oxidising over the day, and I genuinely believe this foundation gets better over the wear. After a few weeks of use, this foundation hasn't irritated my sensitive skin, thanks to its skincare infusion. Instead, my skin is simply healthier.

Georgia:

I have been a Sisley fan since first trying the Phyto Teint Ultra Eclat Foundation (You can read my review on Chatty Chums). It has the perfect coverage, a flawless finish and has seamlessly become my everyday go-to, so it’s a hard one to beat!

My preferred formulas are lightweight and luminous. I personally stay away from any heavy full-coverage foundations, purely because of how they sit on my face during the day and eventually cake. It’s great to be able to build coverage as you need it, and then top up at the end of the day without ruining what you have built underneath. This is where the Phyto-Blanc Le Cushion comes into play.

The foundation has medium coverage to blur the appearance of any blemishes but is incredibly glowy. As the formula set into my skin, the glow subsided into a nice radiance overall - so nothing to be concerned about if ‘glazed donut’ isn’t quite your thing! I wore it all day while running errands with very minimal transfer onto my mask, and then did a quick top up at a friend's place before heading out to dinner. I added a little more foundation on-top of my morning layer, and it blended well - no one noticed I’d added extra, which is a great thing!

And something to add: To my surprise, the cushion which accompanies the compact did a great job. I sometimes find that a brush or sponge provided by the brand is more of an afterthought, but that definitely isn’t the case here. If I was at home, I might opt for my beauty blender, but I was still happy with the cushion.

Longevity

Roxy:

I think this foundation is ideal for dry or normal skin types. For oily or combination types, the skin will likely require some tender prep, extra power, mattifying primers etc. I tend to reach for foundations that look like my skin but with more radiance. This sheer foundation offers that natural finish while still providing decent coverage. Thankfully, Sisley’s make-up technology can do coverage while also lasting the day. My skin is illuminated at the swish of a brush. It is protected for the entire day by the array of skincare ingredients like vegetable-derived sugars and provitamin B5 that support long-lasting hydration. It is also sweat and rub-resistant, ensuring the product won’t move during your busy day.

Georgia:

As Roxy mentions, for dry to normal skin types (which I sit under) I found I needed minimal prep for my skin before-hand. I could easily apply the foundation straight onto the skin, using my moisturiser (with spf) as the base. I try to be as a low maintenance as possible during the weekday, so I absolutely love the added benefits of micronized titanium dioxide, aka protection against UVA/UVB rays, and hand selected ingredients such as buckwheat seed extract to protect against pollution & free radicals - meaning your skincare has less heavy lifting to do! I can easily wear the Phyto-Blanc Le Cushion formula all day, without needing a touch up - which is major in my books.

A few notes from us, the shade selection is extremely limited, but Roxy notes that it seems to be a problem across the board with every cushion foundation she’s considered. That’s because cushion foundations are popular in East Asian countries. First created in Korea, the cushion foundation became the nation-wide go-to and to this day, the preferred formula and method for complexion makeup and application. Due to the niche customer base, the shades are usually limited for Korean skin tones.
