Step aside Sheer Glow, the NARS Light Reflecting foundation is coming for your neck!
NARS Light Reflecting Foundation
No matter who you are, you are bound to find your foundation fit at NARS. Catering to all skin types with an incredible range of shades, NARS has been a huge crowd favourite for the past decade. Because of this, I had high expectations for the new Light Reflecting Foundation. Although it has been on the shelves for a while now, it has given me ample time to experiment on myself and many others. Conclusion? It is a beautiful foundation for almost everyone.
As you can expect from the name itself, this foundation is mostly going to work for dry to combination skin types. On that note, I have used this foundation on oily guys and gals who love it for a short period of time. That is to say, this is not a bulletproof foundation that will weather the whole entire day without a routine check up. Instead, I seriously recommend it for makeup artists looking for a glowy foundation that effortlessly smoothes over pores and texture - this foundation is a makeup kit must-have and photographs beautifully.
For the everyday person who has dry to combo skin, the Light Reflecting foundation is relatively long-lasting given the nature of the formula and has the most gorgeous natural finish.
This skincare infused foundation is packed with redness-reducing and skin-barrier improving ingredients such as Japanese lilyturf and biomimetic oats. Nourish your skin with antioxidants and hydrating algae extracts for that guilt-free makeup indulgence.
The light reflecting complex gives this foundation its luminous quality that is free of shimmers or illuminating particles. Instead, your skin glows from the inside out while your pores and textured areas undergo a serious makeover.
It’s not common that we find foundations that are both luminous and smoothing, but NARS has shown that it can be done! Plus, this foundation boasts an impressive true medium coverage that can be sheered down to your liking.
Light Reflecting Setting Powder
If you are an OG NARS fan, you will be very familiar with the Light Reflecting Crystal Translucent Pressed Powder. It was the gateway product into my powder obsession and it is still my absolute fave. This year, NARS released three additional shades to compliment medium to deep skin tones in two different formulas: pressed and loose.
At first, this powder looks like a highlighter due to the light reflecting complex. On application, however, these particles diffuse into the skin, smooth over pores and adjust to the changing light sources. The shimmery particles are so finely milled that the product itself does not show on the skin whatsoever.
I recommend this powder for people who want to set their makeup without diminishing the glow or finish from their favourite foundation. Yes, this is a powder that feels matte to the touch but doesn’t detract from the radiant finish of your base makeup. Instead, the Light Reflecting powder leaves a weightless veil of softly mattifying powder that creates the most genuine skin-like finish.
An absolute godsend for those with dry skin, there is finally a powder for you: Undetectable and feather light.
Pressed Powder or Loose Powder?
The texture of the pressed powder is truly unique. Unless you are vigorously rubbing your brush or sponge into the pan, there is virtually no fall out or powder fly aways. When you feel it between your fingers, it almost feels as if there is a film that is slippery.
The loose version, on the other hand, doesn’t share the same slippery quality. Rather, it is smoother and drier to the touch. However, do not assume that this ultra-fine powder is anything like the HD powders that you have seen on the market. There is nothing patchy, dry or cakey about it at all.
If you are wondering whether the pressed or loose version will suit you more, the answer is quite simple. Choose the formula that you are more attracted to! This is because the effect on the skin is practically identical.
I have tried a fair amount of powders in my makeup journey and I can truly say that there is nothing I can compare this powder to. They are powders that stand within its own league. I recommend that you give it a go before you make your judgements by swatching it in the store.
NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder, $66 NZD.
If you couldn’t tell, I am a huge fan. The foundation is one of the juiciest foundations that I have come across in a while. Although it has a super smoothing effect, it is completely free of that dimethicone-like touch and does not look greasy.
Furthermore, the powder is just a fabulous relaunch of the two formulas with an inclusive range of shades.
